Schedule

One of my goals is to get into a somewhat strict routine/schedule.  Mainly for Jane, but also for us.  I would like to have set times when Jane naps and goes to bed.  Right now it is quite random, depending on Justin's homework schedule or our personal lives.

Today I began this transition.

Jane usually sleeps with us at night.  We have an "Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper" that sits right next to our bed, but many times she refuses to be silent unless she is snuggling against some warm momma or dada.  We are starting to get frustrated with it and feel it is time to transition her into her own room.  We love snuggling with our bug, but we don't want to be mad about it.  Therefore, now is a good time for us to begin this transition.

For naptime today, at around noon, I took Jane into her room, turned on some light music, changed her dipe and laid her in her crib to fall asleep on her own.  I am not into "Ferberizing," necessarily, but I felt it would be good to try a little bit of "crying-it-out" for naptime.  It worked!  She cried for about ten minutes, not too hard, and fell asleep on her own.  I feel quite accomplished and feel this is a huge step in the right direction.  I am going to try this for her afternoon and evening naps as well and maybe at bedtime.  I might not push it too hard, and only go for naps the first few days, then try bedtime; not really sure yet.

I feel having set naptimes will help everyone.  Me, with some sanity; Jane, with a set schedule; Justin, it will help him mostly in the evening to know when he gets time with just me.

As far as other parts of our daily schedule that need to be tweaked, there are so many.
I would like to start waking up earlier.  I would like to have set times when Jane eats solids (she is eating them about 3 times a day now).  I would like to have a set God time.  Even a set time where we read together and play together and clean.  I would like to set up a tentative schedule that we follow on a daily basis.  Of course, this schedule will be flexible, I think it would be stupid for it not to be.

That is all.  Maybe I will post the sched. once I have one set up!

  1. I definitely need to work on scheduling things better.
I tried for a bit to get up when James left for work, but with being pregnant and us not getting to sleep at a good time at night, it just hasn't happened.
I'm exhausted. Pregnancy with a toddler....tough, but I'd like to get this all worked out before having Maeva.

I love having Braden somewhat on a schedule. His nap and bedtime schedule are pretty set, but somedays just doesn't happen! Jane crying for only 10 minutes is good! Sometimes Braden would cry for about 30 mins... so hard on me and him! Good luck with it all Jess!

    1. I am the same way. I always desire to get up in the morning with Justin, if only to eat some cereal and say goodbye, but nights are so difficult and I am never fully rested.
Yea, I was impressed she dealt so well with it for the first time. It is so hard to just let her cry. Thanks for the luck!
